Study in the South Solent region

There are 79 state secondary schools in Hampshire as well as many independent schools including the world renowned Winchester College which was founded in 1382.

FE colleges can be found in Eastleigh, Southampton, Totton, Brockenhurst and Winchester.

The University of Southampton is one of the top 15 research-led universities in the UK. It also provides a wide range of services for the business community. The university has a global reputation for leading-edge research into oceanography, cancer sciences, sound and vibration research, optoelectronics and textile conservation.

The National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS), is a collaborative Centre owned by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the University of Southampton. NOCS is based at a purpose-built waterside campus in Southampton, and is home to some 520 research scientists, lecturing support and seagoing staff as well over 700 undergraduate and postgraduate students (Source: National Oceanography Centre, Southampton).

Southampton Solent University offers students an education that combines theory and practice and carries good job prospects, with a 91per cent employment rate. It is spearheading a ‘£10 million worth of Graduate Jobs Campaign’ to help regenerate the Southampton and regional economies.

The initiative which focuses on increasing graduate employment opportunities and encouraging entrepreneurship is challenging businesses in the area to help Solent reach a £10m target.

Warsash Maritime Academy, has recently opened its £2.7m Handling Centre as part of the Southampton Solent University’s highly specialised maritime training facilities.
 
There are 69 LEA maintained schools on the Isle of Wight including five secondary schools.
There is a vision for the Isle of Wight to become a world renowned Eco-Island, with a thriving economy, a real sense of pride and a place where residents and visitors can enjoy healthy lives, feel safe and are treated with respect.

Part of the council’s overall approach to regeneration is to raise the standards of educational attainment and opportunity on the Island. To that end it has taken the strategic decision to reorganise the school system from a primary, middle and high model to one of primary (4-11 age range) and secondary (11-19 age range) schools. Isle of Wight College is an FE college with a broad curriculum to reflect the needs of the island. The main campus is in Newport and it is the island's major provider of further education and training for some 8,000 learners.
