A new Visitor Information Service is set to open in the heart of Southampton’s Cultural Quarter.

The visitor information team will be moving from their current location at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), to the lower ground floor of the central library in the Civic Centre. 

The move comes after the news that Southampton was voted one of the top 20 visitor destinations in the UK by Visit Britain. Southampton is placed 19th in top 20 places to spend overnight, ahead of Windsor.   

Councillor John Hannides, Cabinet Member for Resources, Leisure and Culture at Southampton City Council said: “We are all extremely proud that Southampton has for the first time made it into the UK’s top 20 most visited towns and cities by visitors from overseas.    

“With new and more efficient services such as the VIS we’re working hard as a council to make Southampton even more attractive to visitors, residents and businesses alike for many years to come.”   

The Visitor Information Service (VIS) will permanently replace the Tourist Information Centre located on Civic Centre Road. The TIC will close on Saturday, November 19 and the new Visitor Information Centre will open on the lower ground floor of the central library on Monday, November 28.

Along with continuing to offer help and advice to tourists, visitors and residents as normal, the VIS will also feature a new retail area with a variety of souvenirs and merchandise available to purchase.
